Research at BioSight
Rigorous, ethical, and patient-centered.
Our research advances the science of TED care — always grounded in safety, transparency, and respect for every participant.

Our team has participated in 6 international clinical trials on therapies involving treatment of TED. We are at the forefront of research in this space
Innovation with Integrity
At BioSight Innovations, research is never an afterthought — it is integral to who we are. But our commitment to scientific advancement is always matched by an equal commitment to ethics, patient protection, and transparency.

When research is part of your care, it will always be fully explained, genuinely voluntary, and conducted with the highest ethical standards. We will tell you the risks and benefits honestly. You will never feel pressured to participate.

Ethical by Design
Every study follows rigorous IRB oversight, informed consent, and patient safety protocols.
Disease-Focused
Our narrow TED focus means a deep, well-characterized patient population and clinically meaningful research questions.
Globally Collaborative
We partner with international institutions to accelerate translation from bench to bedside.
Teprotumumab
Expanding TED Treatment Access
Dr. Ugradar's clinical research has demonstrated the efficacy of teprotumumab (Tepezza) in patient populations previously excluded from trials: those with chronic TED, asymmetric presentations, and non-inflammatory disease. This work is directly expanding treatment options for thousands of patients.

Collagen Cross-Linking
Scleral & Tissue Stiffening
A novel laser device using a specific light wavelength combined with Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) to enhance collagen cross-linking in sclera, tarsal plate, and skin. Clinical applications include myopia-related blindness prevention, floppy eyelid syndrome treatment, and aesthetic skin tightening — all currently in development or trial at UCLA.
Novel Insight
Research into understanding the basis of TED:
We have published numerous papers on improving the understanding of how TED works. Combining infusions with research allows us to gain a unique insight into the disease process and therefore, manage patients better."
Key Research Programs
Orbital Anatomy & Aging
CT-Based Volumetric Studies
Dr. Ugradar's large-scale CT imaging studies — including a 240-orbit analysis — have expanded our understanding of orbital anatomy, aging, and TED-related structural changes. This foundational work informs surgical planning and outcomes research.
Genomics
Orbital Fat Biology
Single-cell genome-wide expression analysis of orbital versus abdominal adipose tissue — investigating the unique metabolic properties of orbital fat and its resistance to dietary changes. Ongoing work with potentially significant therapeutic implications for TED and other orbital conditions.
Filler Safety
Hyaluronic Acid &
Ocular Risk
A critical research program investigating the risks of hyaluronic acid fillers — including thrombogenicity, particle formation after digestion, and the use of retrobulbar hyaluronidase for filler-induced blindness. This work has important safety implications across aesthetic medicine.
