About BioSight Innovations

   Our Story

A specialty clinic and research organization built on the belief that exceptional science and genuine human compassion are not in conflict — they are inseparable.

   Our Purpose

Why BioSight Exists

BioSight Innovations was founded to address a gap in care: people living with Thyroid Eye Disease often navigate a fragmented, confusing healthcare landscape — moving between generalists, endocrinologists, and ophthalmologists without a clear center of gravity.

We created BioSight to be that center. A place where world-class scientific expertise, active research, and genuine patient partnership converge. Where no one is rushed, dismissed, or left without answers.

Our mission is simple: To restore function, confidence, and quality of life for people affected by Thyroid Eye Disease through integrated, ethical, and research-driven care.

"Specialized Care.
Human Understanding."

This is the soul of BioSight Innovations. Every interaction — clinical, research, digital, or personal — reflects these values.

Our Commitments

  • Specialization over generalization

  • Evidence over hype

  • Compassion over speed

  • Ethics over marketing claims

  • Patient partnership over provider dominance

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Shoaib (Shoeab) Ugradar

MD MRCP (UK) BSc (Hons)  Â·  Oculoplastic Surgeon  Â·  Researcher  Â·  Innovator

A Life in Medicine & Discovery

Dr. Shoaib Ugradar is one of the world's leading oculoplastic surgeons, combining elite clinical training with a pioneering commitment to research and patient-centered care. Born and educated in London, he earned his medical degree from the University of London and a First Class Honours degree in Human Biosciences — then pursued one of only three nationally available posts in Academic Surgery in the UK, signaling from early in his career a determination to advance the field, not merely practice within it.

After completing internal medicine training and earning his MRCP (Membership of the Royal College of Physicians), Dr. Ugradar pursued subspecialty training in oculoplastic surgery across some of the UK's most prestigious institutions — including Moorfields Eye Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and Whipps Cross University Hospital — training under internationally recognized surgeons before being recruited to UCLA.

A Leader at UCLA

Dr. Ugradar joined the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA in 2017 as an Oculoplastics Research Fellow, recruited specifically to expand the department's research footprint. He was appointed as an Attending Physician in 2019, seeing patients across UCLA Westwood, UCLA Calabasas, and UCLA Santa Monica.

Since joining UCLA, he has authored over 56 peer-reviewed publications, secured a US patent, and has two further patents pending. He received the ASOPRS Award for Excellence in Research in 2020 — the most prestigious prize in oculoplastic surgery research, awarded to only one recipient internationally per year — and secured $500,000 in private research funding.

Pioneering Research

Dr. Ugradar's research spans groundbreaking clinical studies and original device innovation. His work on teprotumumab has expanded treatment options for patients with chronic, asymmetric, and non-inflammatory Thyroid Eye Disease — populations that were previously underserved. His engineering approach to medicine has also produced two major innovations:

Novel Device

The Orbiculometer

The world's first device for measuring eyelid muscle strength — opening new possibilities for diagnosing and monitoring conditions affecting the eye and periorbital muscles. US Patent No. 206030-0152-P1-US.608080.

His neuroscience background — including research at the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square on Frontotemporal Dementia and multiple sclerosis remyelination — gives Dr. Ugradar an unusually broad scientific perspective that informs his approach to every patient encounter.

Compassion as a Clinical Standard

What distinguishes Dr. Ugradar is not only his scientific accomplishment, but his unwavering commitment to treating patients as whole people. Having trained across internal medicine, neurology, and surgery, he brings an unusually holistic perspective to ophthalmic care — one that recognizes that Thyroid Eye Disease affects how patients feel, how they see themselves, and how they move through the world.

He founded BioSight Innovations on the belief that the best science and the most compassionate care are not competing goals — they are the same goal, pursued together.
